Keyboard Kid follows up his release of “DON’T LEAVE BASEDWORLD” with “Noah Calhoun”, about one week later.  In his words, “I’M SO #RARE AND SO PRETTY..MY BEATS ARE THE BEST..FUCK U BITCH..IM THE FINEST BITCH..IM FINER THAN MY BITCH..I’M A BLONDE BEAUTIFUL BITCH”.  I was thinking about how the two main #based representatives (lil B and KBK) use the word #rare.  A lot of these new based fans use the word to describe just about anything they like, missing how KBK and Lil B use the word: they’re being literal.  You can never again have an individual who makes a tape named after a character in a Romantic movie, because KBK did it.  You’re never again going to have another artist refer to themselves as a “bitch” without directly biting Lil B and KBK.  They’re #rare not because the projects are in a limited run, but because KBK’s #based projects push the boundaries of music and music culture in a way that no one could do without leaching off of him.  The projects are #rare because the individuals making them are.  There can be no other KBK or Lil B. Ever.

I needed this tape to say that.  This tape is larger than itself.  It’s very different from the last tape KBK did, with sounds aiming directly at your romantic heart.  Some tracks dip into R n’ B revivals, others bring you to a slow-dance floor from an 80s “Pretty In Pink” derivative.  Others push towards ambient, enveloping sounds that mzke you realze that you’re in love with someone (like the track ‘Bliss’).  KBK created a soundtrack for the range of feelings that many of us recognize at the various stages of being in love with someone, making this tape a complete take on Romance.  He doesn’t forget his shiny interjections and “video game” sound suggestions, so this tape retains KBK’s signature.  I’ll leave you with two examples “Fell For Her” and “Haters Still Lurk” (which closes out the tape) to show the range “Noah Calhoun” brings.  

This is #rare. Collect this.
