Premiere: Deniro Farrar & Shady Blaze “The Ballad Of Lost Souls” (Prod. Keyboard Kid)
The like-minded, East-meets-West team of Deniro Farrar and Shady Blaze are just about ready to drop their collaborative album. But before they do, they’re sharing one final leak in “The Ballad of Lost Souls,” a based, emotional joint produced by Keyboard Kid. Typically, Blaze will complement Farrar’s rhymes with a tight, double-time flow, but here he’s more subdued and reflective. In a way, it allows for more contemplation, as both MCs’ words strike you over the moody beat. You can stream and download it below. -Andrew Martin

1. KEYBOARD KID 206 – THE TRANSITION EP (DONKY PITCH – DKY005) Coming off the back of a slew of well received mixtapes and production credits for Lil B, Seattle based producer Keyboard Kid 206’s first official solo release comes courtesy of Brighton’s Donky Pitch crew. ‘The Transition’ EP features five tracks of hyper-charged synths, rude drum line swagger and bizarre divergences and is one of the most intriguing releases to come out so far this year. Immediately exploding in a shower of maximalist colour, opener ‘WelcomeX’ sets the pace and tone of the EP. From there, title track ‘TheTransition’ adds an additional sense of drama to proceedings before ‘BasedExcorcism’ reels it back in slightly. On ‘TheMost’ Keyboard Kid channels the sickly sweet synths of trance into an intense MPC workout before the EP is played out on the uncompromising hyper-charged trance of ‘Long Live Swag’. Here it would seem Keyboard Kid is making the transition from bedroom producer to a fully fledged artist, and one who prospers with the freedom of working alone – highly recommended!
